An exclusive fashion show took place in Moscow during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, celebrating the new collections from Russia’s most in-demand designers. Russian fashion is defiantly evolving and making its place known in international panorama. With many young, fresh fashion designers emerging every year, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Russia has become a well known platform for many upcoming designers, allowing new talents to showcase their work internationally to the public, press and buyers.
Dasha Gauser is one of the most recognisable and popular young designers in Russia today, the history of the brand only dates back to 2006. In 2008 the first boutique for Dasha Gauser was opened, and the second multi-brand boutique was not far behind, opening in September 2009. During Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2012 Gauser dedicated her collection to mysticism, the heroine being the contemporary woman whose super power is her inner strength. On the catwalk the break from the past is visible in the asymmetrical cut dresses, which are mostly single-shouldered, the lines and the edge are oblique, the materials are smooth and draped and create elegant and rich silhouettes. The ground-grazing long skirts in pastel colors are matched with solid colors pullovers with voluminous necks. The theme of the heroine’s connection to mother nature appears through an emphasis in floral patterns, mostly seen on the skirts and dresses. The collection also draws on elements from traditional Russian clothing which, in turn, references to the severe climate changes. Among these were padded jackets, patchwork canvas, and coarse knitted fabrics. The colors of the pieces include milk white, deep blue, black, red, emerald, and dark green, all combined with vegetable patterns. The designer well integrates the questionable elements of traditional winter clothing, such as the quitted jacket, still managing to maintain an elegance and femininity.
The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week F/W 2012-2013 demonstrated that in Russia there are a lot of young designers ready to put their stamp on the fashion industry.
